The 2026 High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) will be held at UN Headquarters in New York from 7 to 15 July under the theme, "Transformative, equitable, innovative and coordinated actions for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals for a sustainable future for all," to help accelerate progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. The High-level Segment of ECOSOC, including the three-day ministerial segment of the HLPF, will take place on 13-16 July 2026.

The HLPF will bring together governments, business leaders, civil society representatives, mayors, scientists, policymakers and international organizations to assess SDG progress, exchange experiences, strengthen partnerships and accelerate action to achieve a more inclusive and sustainable future for all.

Convened under the auspices of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the Forum will review in depth Goals 6 (Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all), 7 (Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all), 9 (Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation), 11 (Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable) and 17 (Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development).

 

UNEP will participate in the discussions of the HLPF 2026 including through the delivery of statements in Official Meetings, and participation in Special Events and Side Events. Messages of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA) to the HLPF will be delivered by the President of UNEA. The Chair of the Board of the 10-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns (10YFP) will introduce the annual report to the HLPF. UNEP will organize one official side event, focused on pollution-free economies.
